I tried a few variations of the Auraknot/Mooka combination until I got one I liked.

weekly challenges 170 & 171: bugles & beads of courage

Haven't jumped on the merry bandwagon in a while, so I sat down recently and did a couple of weekly challenges. I couldn't decide to go with color or shading for the Bugles one, so I went with this (it wasn't a total waste; at least next time I'll know what not to do). I'd go back and add a little shading to make this better, but I've spent so much time looking at it today that I'm ready to be done with it. I like the pattern, at least.

...and here are my beads of courage for the Diva's son. He earns one bead of courage for every medical poke and prod and illness and overnighter, and he's got quite a collection going. So, this one's for him.

Weekly Challenge #164: "Amanda (Earth) Day"

I spent Earth day at my allergist's office (seven hours of it, anyway) taking part in RUSH immunotherapy. One shot of my own personal allergen cocktail every 30 minutes, for the purpose of reaching a maintenance level dose faster. Fall is my suckiest time of year, so I've got some time to build up my resistance to ragweed and mountain cedar. I'm also ok with rounding it all up and burning it down to the ground. I'll even bring the marshmallows.

Anyway, my mom kept me company the whole time. I beat her in one round of hand and foot out of nine (almost two), and that's kind of a big deal in sandyland. My mom's a total card fiend... she's not completely unbeatable, but there is some high-level strategy going on upstairs... whereas I'm usually pondering whether she's got all the ingredients in her pantry to make chocolate chip cookies as we play. :o)

Weekly Challenge #80: 'Mi2' (with a side of 'Knyt')

This week's challenge is a moderately tricky pattern called 'Mi2'. I have discovered that the easiest way to draw it is to use a dot grid, so I have an approximate center for each 'seed' shape as I draw the skeleton of this pattern. Otherwise none of them line up right and it stomps all over the woven effect we're going for. At first, I skipped all the aura lines within each enclosed space. I know it's part of the pattern that makes it Mi2, but as I'm a victim of my own whimsical nature, I... uh, didn't.

THEN I realized I could do both flowers (actually, it's bales, if you look at it from a distance) and the aura lines...and I'm glad I did. I think I like it better this way, wonky lines and all. I used Inktense watercolor pencils and a ridiculously small paintbrush for this. Unlike my other watercolor pencils, once these dry, the color is set for all eternity- it doesn't budge. Soo, basically... it saves me from myself.

Anyone else been playing with Knyt? At least nobody can accuse me of having 'angry stitches'...*cough* Julie! *cough* ;o) If my stitches were any looser, I'd have to pull them out and redo them. Which gives me an idea...!

Weekly Challenge #75: "Tanglation Nation: Cadent"

Ahh, Cadent. You are a foundation, a keystone; a staple. 

New tanglers swoon at your apparent difficulty, 

until they discover 

how 

simple 

you 

really 

are. 

This tile is mostly a combination of Cadent and Dragonair, a pattern created by Norma Burnell. Let it be known, that woman can rock a set of Inktense watercolor pencils like you would not believe. So. Much. Talent. *sigh*

I used a purple LePen and green and blue Sharpie pens to add a 'ping' of color. A smattering. A hint. A highlight. An accent. 

No pop.

I say this because if I hear the words 'pop of color' (or 'organic') one more time I'm going to scream like I did that one time I got on the New York New York roller coaster in Las Vegas.

Weekly Challenge #69: "UMT v.IV: Groovy"

The Diva's weekly challenge is to use GROOVY (a tangle pattern submitted by Eden) in a tangle. I can't say I love the way this one turned out, but I'm trying really hard to get out of the habit of being obsessive about perfection. It ruins the 'zen' part of zentangle when I focus on the things I haven't done as well as I would like, so I'm going to pretend I drew the pattern right (I didn't) and the shading is even (it's not) and vow to do better on the next one. :o)

weekly challenge #67: 'amanda' (earth) day

I don't currently have anyone in my life named Amanda, but if a child (most especially the Diva's child) declares that the earth must be referred to as 'Amanda' (even if he doesn't know one either)... well...

I'm posting two tiles for earth day: one that I like and one I don't. I'm striving to be more diva-like; it resonated with me when she said tangling is 'more about the process than the product' for her. And drawing a feathery egg was... uh... quite a process. I think I'm gonna need to spend a little more time getting acquainted with the Featherfall pattern before we can really get along.

The second tile I did a while back, but if you wanted it any earthier, you'd have to rub it in the dirt.

Diva challenge #66- Laura's Auras

The Diva challenge for this week is to use tangle patterns that have auras, or parallel outlines that radiate outward from the original lines of the pattern. I almost didn't do this one, and I'm so glad I did... 'cause guess who's gonna use Antidot to make Christmas trees on cards this year??? THIS ONE. *searches for glitter*

weekly challenge #65: UMT v.III

Every Monday morning, the Diva issues a new challenge. This week's contender is a Use My Tangle guest submission called 'huggy bear'. My interpretation of HB is on the bottom right. It makes me think of pincushions. Or doughnuts. Or cream puffs. Or pizza... or a banana fudge sundae with rocky road and extra almonds on top. Or my mom's meatloaf, with fresh green beans and crispy parmesan potatoes stacked on the side.

hmm... note to self... no blogging whilst hungry.
